The newest tapener, the Max HT-R has a smaller head and utilises a smaller roll.  As more and more tree growers move their opperations indoors to control the environment that the tree grows in, space has become a premium.  The more narrow features and lighter weight of the HT-R lends itself to working in more confined spaces such as greenhouses packed with small trees.
